This picture is capturing one of the highlights of our January 2013 Disneyland Resort vacation. My boys, Joel on the left and Evan on the right, are laughing hysterically. They were having such a grand time that others were stopping and taking enjoyment in watching them. One older man struck up a conversation with me and we chatted for about 15 minutes just watching our boys. When he left, he thanked me for raising such fun-loving boys and that this was a highlight of his day.
What was the fun-loving activity?
We were at Disneyland after all. We weren’t in a theme park. We weren’t in Downtown Disney. We were checking into the hotel. This is the lobby of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. All of this fun was sitting in kid-size rocking chairs and watching old Mickey Mouse cartoons.
The moral of this story is you never know when these priceless moments will sneak into your vacation. When the moments arise try to let them happen. I will admit my first instinct as a parent was to hush my children for being loud, and I think I even did a couple of times. After, I paused and looked around to see if others were being impacted by the behavior. To my surprise everyone was smiling at them. You could tell by the look on their faces that they were enjoying the laughter. There is nothing better than a child’s laugh.
This falls under the stop and smell the roses category for vacation. Sometimes we try to plan vacations and plan the magical moments. I am a planner. I plan a lot for our vacations. I am happy to also be married to a planner and we work together. Our unforgettable vacation moments have come from things we never would have thought to plan. They just need to happen when they happen.
Now go and let the memories happen!
